Week 8 Round Up: Changing Your Own Course

Last week, I had tons of emotional peaks and valleys and I really looked at why I wanted to change the course of my health. Was it really worth it to lose this weight, and be healthy, only to sacrifice other aspects of my life? Not that eating is the issue here...actually the food part and choosing better meals to eat has been quite easy. The harder part is taking a part of the day that I usually spend with my family and focus that portion of it towards working out...which in most cases will take anywhere from one to two hours in the evening.

Changing the course of my wellness was truly necessary! Not only for my son and husband, but also also for me. I can finally see a healthier and happier person that is proving to others that if you take care of your body...you body will take care of you. Plus I have so much energy now and I feel so much better physically and at 42 I look much younger than I did when I had the extra pounds. Seriously I think I can pass for my early 30s!

I have to say that I am a little obsessed with my work out routines. I've have given up the P90X for now because I am finding the traditional cardio and weights at the gym to be more fulfilling for me at the moment. The 1-2 hour "self time" seems to be helping me relieve stress and anxiety as well. However, as my partner has stated it has taken time away from my family and I told him that he just needs to be a little more patient so that I can reach my goal weight. Once I've reached that goal, I can help to better come up with a routine that will satisfy everyone involved. I fear that if I don't commit to working out daily, right now, I may go back to the old routine of being stationary and not active at all.

The Good old YMCA

Who knew that I would actually be going to the YMCA on a daily basis? I actually enjoy it more than the 24-hour gyms that seem to have popped up everywhere. Part of my like and motivation is that I don't have to deal with the stand and pose muscle folks there and I don't feel intimidated that I'm still pretty flabby. There's a whole mix of young and old, and all body types. It just feels very comfortable. Plus, they have a great kids program for my son and he enjoys being there as well! The membership price is also quite attractive!

I have come up with a routine for the week. Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays I do 30-minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine followed by weights for my upper body and my abdominal region. Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays I do 30 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike and weights for my lower body. Sundays I tend to just do some sit ups and spend time in the pool with my son. It's a good routine. If anyone has any ideas on how I can maximize my weight training and developing my body - especially my upper body and abdominal region better...I WOULD LOVE YOUR INPUT!

When I use to go to the gym, back like 20-years ago - I really never did weights or the cardio machines. I mostly went for the aerobic classes. Now that has totally flipped. I realize and I have been told that I should add cardio classes to my routine as well as some stretching and yoga. I especially need the stretching and yoga as I hear both helps to tone the body faster. So it's interesting that I am actually sitting and doing weights and that my commitment to it has lasted this long.

I already have great news to share for this week - but will report on my Week 9 Round Up next week. This will include reports on:
